The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Vangelic staged a really promising effort in winning on debut in a good time of 1:03.36 for the 1100 metre journey.
The two-year-old filly jumped well and then tracked the leader at a solid tempo.
She got to the front at the 200 metre-mark and then safely held off a late challenge from the Godolphin-raced filly Parakeet (Kermadec) to score well by a length and a half, sprinting home her last 600 metres in 34.2 seconds.
Vangelic is the first winner from 11 starters for Golden Slipper (Gr 1, 1200m) winning Coolmore sire Vancouver (Medaglia D’Oro), who was also trained by Waterhouse.
She is the third foal to race and win out of the four-time winner and stakes-placed mare Angel Bee (Pins) who herself is out of the Group 3 winner Zabeels Angel (Zabeel).
Zabeels Angel produced Rotorua Stakes (Gr 3, 1400m) placegetter O’Angel (Cape Blanco) as well as Turnstiles (Anabaa) who is the dam of VRC Sires’ Produce (Gr 2, 1400m) and Caulfield Guineas Prelude (Gr 3, 1400m) placed Revolving Door (Sebring).
Angel Bee has a colt by Yarraman Park’s late stallion Hinchinbrook (Fastnet Rock) on offer at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale catalogued as Lot 26 https://inglis.com.au/sales/info/2020+Melbourne+Premier+Yearling+Sale/catalogue/26 and missed to Merchant Navy (Fastnet Rock) in 2019.
She was last served by Written Tycoon (Iglesia) in October last year.
